nominations open
Nominations for the Washington 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year Award, sponsored by Teachers’ Insurance Plan, are accepted through April 30.
Go to www.teachers.com and describe in 250 words or less why the nominated person deserves the award.
The award includes $1,000 to the teacher and $500 to the school. The winner also is eligible for a national award and prize.
Teachers, administrators, students, parents and others can nominate any accredited teacher for the award.

Choir boosters meet tonight
The Sequim High School choir booster club meets at 6:30 p.m., March 18 in the choir room at Sequim Community School’s auxiliary building, 220 W. Alder St.
Meeting topics include planning and strategizing for adjudication and the Heritage Festival at Disneyland next year.
The choir makes a trip to Anaheim, Calif., for the Heritage Festival. Trip funding is only possible with parent involvement, boosters say; the cost was about $900 per student in 2008. All parents and students are invited, particularly eight-grade choir parents.

SHS bands spring concert set
The Sequim High School bands host their spring concert at 7 p.m. March 19 in the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
Entry is by donation.
Selections will be performed by all five groups of the band program.

Physicians’ scholarships,
grants up for grabs
Caretakers of the Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund are accepting applications for both academic scholarships in medically-related fields and medically-related community grants.
To be eligible, a student must be a graduate of a Clallam County high school and have been accepted into (or currently be enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in) a fully-accredited, professional school in a medically-related program.
Applications for both scholarships and grants may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: The Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund, P.O. Box 3005, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Applications are due by June 1.
The benefit fund was formed in 1995 when Regence BlueShield joined with Clallam County Physicians Service, Inc., a company formed by local physicians to provide health coverage to local citizens.
Hospital guild
scholarships available
Each year the Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild offers several scholarships to students who are majoring in a subject or program in the medical field.
To be eligible, applicants must be a Clallam County resident who has been accepted at a four-year college or medical school as a full-time student and entering at least their junior year of college.
