Skate party for
homeschoolers set
A homeschool skate is slated from 10 a.m.-noon, March 11 at Olympic Skate Center, 707 S. Chase St. in Port Angeles.
The event is free to all homeschooling students and families and to those interested in homeschooling.

Choir boosters
meet next week
The Sequim High School choir booster club meets at 6:30 p.m., March 18 in the choir room at Sequim Community School’s auxiliary building, 220 W. Alder St. Meeting topics include planning and strategizing for adjudication and the Heritage Festival at Disneyland next year.
The choir makes a trip to Anaheim, Calif., for the Heritage Festival. Trip funding is only possible with parent involvement, boosters say; the cost was about $900 per student in 2008.
All parents and students are invited, particularly eighth-grade choir parents.

Physicians’ scholarships, grants up for grabs
Caretakers of the Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund are accepting applications for both academic scholarships in medically-related fields and medically-related community grants, both to be awarded in 2009.
The goal of the academic scholarships is to provide tuition support for students in medical fields. To be eligible, a student must be a graduate of a Clallam County high school and have been accepted into (or currently be enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in) a fully-accredited, professional school in a medically-related program.
The goal of community grants is to encourage one-time, medically-related community projects that benefit a broad cross-section of the community.
Applications for both scholarships and grants may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: The Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund, P.O. Box 3005, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Completed applications are due by June 1.
Six Sequim students make the grade at SPU
Half a dozen Sequim High School graduates are on Seattle Pacific University’s dean’s list for the 2008 autumn quarter.
They are: Whitney May Bigger, Naomi Marie Fosket, Kira Louise Hendricksen, Valerie Kathleen Moser, Michael James Richards and Mickey Yeager.
Students on the dean’s list have completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.50 or higher grade-point average.
Sandell to study
art crime in Italy
Harasyn Ruth Sandell, a 2005 graduate of Sequim High School, recently accepted a half-tuition scholarship for the master’s program at the ARCA International Art Crimes Studies in Amelia, Italy.
The program combines faces of art criminology including apprehension of international art criminals, art collections security, art fraud, art history, transportation and insurance of art and international law.
Sandell receives her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in art history and communications summa cum laude, from Dominican University of California this May. Sandell is the daughter of Charlee Sandell and the late Kurt Sandell.
Ackley gains
Adelphi honor
Taylor Ackley of Sequim recently was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. Ackley is a 2008 graduate of Sequim High School.
Eaton earns
Valparaiso award
Sequim’s Jonathan Eaton, a senior at Valparaiso University, recently received Lumina Award from the school.
The honor is presented to students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences whose cumulative grade-point average after six semesters is 3.60 or better.
Eaton, son of Steven and Rebecca Eaton, is majoring in history and humanities.
He graduated from Sequim High School in 2005.
