Band hosts car wash

The Sequim High marching band and flag team is having a car wash from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, in the parking lot in front of Tarcisio’s Italian Place, 609 W. Washington St.

The band is raising funds for an upcoming trip to Victoria, British Columbia, for Victoria Days, and to the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, Calif., next school year.

Eaton named to dean’s list at CLU

Aaron Eaton, a 2008 graduate of Sequim High School, was named to the dean’s list at California Lutheran University for fall semester.

Eaton is a sophomore at CLU with a major in multimedia.

Students at the university qualify for the dean’s list by earning a 3.60 grade-point average or better.

Grey, Cherrett named to CWU honor roll

Mary Anna Cherrett and Matthew Bell Grey, both 2009 Sequim High School graduates, were named to the Central Washington University honor roll for winter quarter.

Central undergraduate students who earn a 3.50 or better grade-point average while maintaining at least 12 graded credit hours of study are eligible for the honor roll.

Young entrepreneur challenge all set

Organizers of the third annual Entrepreneur Youth Challenge are looking for business-minded, high-school-aged youths who would like to be entrepreneurs to enter the 2010 youth competition.

High schoolers from Clallam and Jefferson counties may enter as individuals or teams but must signal their intent to compete by submitting Intent to Enter forms no later than 5 p.m. today, April 14, to the Peninsula College Entrepreneur Institute.

The form provides notification of participation in the competition and does not require a draft business plan.

A completed business plan is due electronically by 5 p.m. Friday, May 14.

The top two high-school-aged individuals and/or teams receive $1,000 awards for their efforts.

Scholarships for future teachers available

Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is offering grants to college students who are majoring in education.

Applicants must have graduated from a Clallam County high school and be a student at either the junior or senior level in an accredited teacher-training institution.

Students who have completed their first two years of work at Peninsula College and have been accepted by an accredited teacher-training program and students working on their fifth year of training also are eligible.

UW offers ‘SuperCamp’ for youths

Students hoping to boost their academic, social and communication skills are invited to the University of Washington’s SuperCamp, a summer enrichment experience at the Seattle school. Student campers live on campus and take part in activities designed to accelerate learning techniques.

SuperCamp lasts 10 days and is July 23-Aug. 1 for students entering grades nine-12. Cost is $2,695.

Physicians’ scholarships, grants available

Caretakers of the Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit Fund are accepting applications for academic scholarships in medically related fields and for medically related community grants. Both will be awarded in 2010.

The scholarships provide tuition support for students in medical fields. To be eligible, a student must be a graduate of a Clallam County high school and have been accepted into (or currently be enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in) a fully-accredited, professional school in a medically related program.

Completed applications are due by Tuesday, June 1.
