Sequim choir gets Carnegie nod
Sequim High School’s choir has been invited to perform at the "Festival at Carnegie Hall" event in either 2011 or 2012.
The choir received a gold rating at the Anaheim 2010 Heritage Festival, earning the singers an invitation to Carnegie Hall in New York.

Bruce named to dean’s list
Christina Bruce of Sequim was named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, Mont.
The school’s dean’s list honors students who earn a 3.50 (or higher) grade-point average.
First Teacher hosts parent, reading times
First Teacher, located in Room 4W at Sequim Community School (220 W. Alder St.), is home to several programs this summer.
Join other parents and children for Reading Time at 10:30 a.m. each Monday. Guest readers this month are: Dan Fryer (Aug. 2), Brenda Hanrahan (Aug. 9), Catherine Mix (Aug. 16), Marsha Omdal (Aug. 23 and Lynne Sharp (Aug. 30). Each child receives a book.
Friday Parent Time is at 10:30 a.m. In August, activities include: Gentle Paws Therapy Dogs visit (Aug. 6); Shirley Anderson brings feathers from Dungeness Audubon center (Aug. 13); reading time with Jane Hill (Aug. 20); and craft time with Chase Hill (Aug. 27).

Dorn announces state board special election
Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn will conduct a special election in November 2010 for one position on the state Board of Education.
The board is comprised of 16 members, including three members from the western region of the state who are elected by state school board members.
Candidates for the remaining open position (Western Region Position 3) must be from one of the 19 westernmost counties: Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum and Whatcom.

Sequim band, flag team host car washes
Sequim High School band and flag team is having two more car washes this summer to raise money for upcoming trips.
The car wash dates are July 31 and Aug. 21.
All car washes from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. near Tarcisio’s Italian Place, 609 W. Washington St.
ASSE exchange program seeks host families
The ASSE international student exchange program seeks host families for boys and girls from a variety of countries across the globe. Students are 15-18 years old. They are a set of academically select students and speak English.
ASSE students are fully insured and bring their own personal spending money.
