The Sequim Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Sequim Alternative High School have joined together to establish a “Helping Closet” for students enrolled in the Sequim School District.

Michelle Mahitka and Kim Minard, teachers in the Alternative High School, said they feel this will be a beneficial program and fill a need.

“We all have extra clothing items that take up space in our closets at home,” Mahitka says. “When you donate clothing, you can affect someone’s life in a very tangible and significant way. You can help someone stay warm, dress properly for a job interview or have a new outfit for school.”

Clothing items for donation should be gently used, in good condition and clean. Items needed for the closet include shoes, boots, socks, gloves, pants, skirts, dresses, belts, tee shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, scarves, tank tops and dress clothing for men, women, maternity, children and infants.

Donations can be left with secretary Tammy Matthews in the Alternative High School office. The office is located in the lobby of the auditorium at 533 N. Sequim Ave., and is open 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
