School tour set for Nov. 16
Sequim School District has scheduled the first of two school tours for the 2010-2011 school year for Tuesday, Nov. 16, beginning at 9 a.m.
The tour features Helen Haller Elementary and Sequim High School, which celebrates its centennial this year. (In 1911, the first ninth-grade class was added to the Sequim School District.)
Sequim’s public schools have been educating children since 1862.
Retirees, new parents and longtime Sequim residents are invited to view and learn about the district’s students, programs, school facilities and operations. To register for the tour that includes lunch, call the district office at 582-3264 or send an e-mail (including phone number) to mdashiell@sequim.k12.wa.us.
The school tour schedule is as follows:
? 9-9:30 a.m. – Welcome and overview of the school district from Sequim schools superintendent Bill Bentley, at Helen Haller Elementary School staff room
? 9:30-10:35 a.m. – Tour of Helen Haller Elementary School with principal Patra Boots
? 10:40 -11:10 a.m. – Visit the high school band room for percussion class, with band instructor Vern Fosket
? 11:15-11:45 a.m. – Tour of school district’s administrative offices (newly located within the old high school building)
? 11:45 a.m.-12:10 p.m. – Walk to the high school cafeteria for complimentary lunch
? 12:10-1 p.m. – Meet in high school library to view centennial exhibit and tour Sequim High School with principal Shawn Langston
? 1:05-1:15 p.m. – Gather in the school boardroom for closing remarks and questions.
