A kindergarten readiness meeting is planned for 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Helen Haller Elementary, 350 W. Fir St. Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the principal and kindergarten teachers.
Information about curriculum, first day expectations, how parents can prepare their children, busing, immunization requirements and the importance of attendance will be presented.
Haller kindergarten registration and screening is set for 4-6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, in the school library. Students go through a brief screening process with the kindergarten staff and visit a classroom while parents/guardians complete paperwork in the library.
For more information about these events, call 582-3200.
At Greywolf Elementary, 171 Carlsborg Road in Carlsborg, a similar kindergarten enrollment and screening event is set for 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, May 4. For more information, call 582-3300.
For kindergarten registration, parents/guardians should bring their child’s official birth certificate or passport, record of immunization dates and proof of residency. Acceptable forms of proof of residency include rent/lease agreements, driver’s license or a current bill with your address listed.
Children need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 in order to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2015. Enrollment and registration information can be found on the school district website (www.sequim.k12.wa.us) under “Our District.”
Parents/guardians need to fill out a kindergarten transportation form and return it to the school with the enrollment packet.
For more information, call the Sequim School District office at 582-3260.
Full-day K?
The Sequim School District is planning to offer all-day kindergarten in the fall of 2015. Parents will have the option of choosing a half-day program if they wish.
However, district officials will not know if they will offer all-day kindergarten until legislators finish the Washington state biennial budget which may not be until May or June.
Watch for more information on the district website and Facebook page and in newspapers as information becomes available.
Which school?
Parents/guardians should register their incoming kindergartener at the school corresponding to where they live. At the same time, they may fill out a CHOICE form if they live outside of the Sequim School District and wish to request a transfer to one of the two elementary schools in Sequim.
Or, if they live in Sequim but want to attend the other elementary school, they need to fill out an Intra-District transfer form.
Both forms are available on the district website or can be picked up at the district office. The CHOICE or Intra-District transfer forms should be turned in to Marilyn Walsh at the district office.
To determine which elementary school your child will attend according to where you reside, check the online map of Elementary Attendance on the school district website (www.sequim.k12.wa.us).
Note that Seventh Avenue is the dividing line between Helen Haller and Greywolf attendance areas; those living west of the dividing line need to register students for Greywolf.
No decisions on transfers will be made until August. Sometime in August, parents/guardians will be contacted regarding their request.
