Science Café explores UHV technology

Sequim Education Foundation's ‘Engineering Day’ slated for Saturday

Presenting “Ultra-High Vacuum Technology: What’s Inside?”, Austin Henry of Atlas Technologies is the featured guest at the next Science Café, presented by the Sequim Education Foundation, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.

Port Townsend’s Atlas Technologies designs and manufactures custom aluminum and titanium UHV chambers and fittings, which are applied in a broad range of technical settings including particle physics research, cryogenics, silicon chip manufacturing, synchrotrons, and even fresh produce storage. Founded in 1994, Atlas Technologies has developed several key technologies that have revolutionized the vacuum industry.

Their specialized vacuum chambers and components range in size from handheld fittings to tractor-trailer-sized chambers. Henry presents an overview of the processes that occur in the ultra-high vacuum condition and why this specialized physical environment is necessary in the varied work of Atlas’s worldwide customers.
