The City of Sequim Public Works Department is changing the application procedures for the banner space over West Washington Street. As of April 1, reservations for banner space may be submitted for any desired week up to one year or less in advance of the desired reservation date.
The reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may be hand carried with payment to 615 N. Fifth Ave., or mailed with payment to 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim, WA 98382. The cost of banner space is currently $166 per week. Walk in applications will receive precedence over mailed applications if received on the same date. The application form is available on the City’s website www.sequimwa.gov. Typing “Banner Rental” in the search box will direct you to the banner rental application.
The city banner structure was built and funded primarily for tourism promotion in the City of Sequim. Banners that promote “for profit” activities of private enterprises, announcement of regular activities of organizations, political issues, the sale of goods and services, and messages of religious, business and “issues” organizations are not allowed. The banner policy may be found under Resolution No. R-2012-08. Review the banner policy to determine if your banner is allowable. This policy can be found on the city’s website. Typing “Resolution” in the search box will direct you to a list of the City’s resolutions.
On your application, indicate the date of your event and first, second and third choices for the week the banner can be displayed. There is only one banner space. The banner week runs Monday-Sunday. In the event of a Monday holiday, the banner will go up on Tuesday. Some weeks are pre-reserved for city-sponsored events. Pre-reserved weeks are noted on the banner application form.
*Under provisions of the policy, entities with a higher priority event may “bump” already scheduled banners. See “Allowed Banners: Priority shall be given to banners for events which promote tourism as defined in RCW 67.28. This priority may allow a priority banner to “bump” a non-priority banner if the priority banner requests space at least six weeks before the event for which it wishes to seek a priority banner.”
