Clallam County Superior Court set bail at $25,000 for a Sequim man who allegedly beat his fiancee, kept her inside his home and later blocked police access to his home.

Randal Roorda, 47, of Sequim, was charged April 29 with assault in violation of a protection order, unlawful imprisonment, harassment, malicious mischief in the third degree and interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence incident.

On April 28, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence incident at 860 Blair Ave. in Sequim. Roorda’s fiancee made the call.

She reported that he punch-ed her and threw her about the house. Police reports indicate he threatened her life while holding her down and would not allow her to dial 9-1-1 or to leave the residence.

The woman escaped when Roorda allegedly left the house to buy liquor. After his return and after police responded to the scene, he reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence. While inside, Roorda allegedly damaged the woman’s personal property.

There are two valid domestic violence no-contact orders in place to protect the woman from Roorda.

Law enforcement surrounded the single-story house after Roorda locked and blocked the doorway. A negotiator spoke with Roorda for about two hours, trying to coax him out of the home.

“We have three trained negotiators on staff and their role at the scene is to establish some level of communication with the suspect,” Cameron said, indicating officers were unsure if the man was armed.

Eventually Roorda stopped communicating. Officers heard more noise from the residence, believed he was further barricading the home and decided to go in.

Roorda reportedly was overwhelmed but resisted arrest. A Taser was deployed and he was subdued. He went to the hospital to be treated for a possibly lethal blood alcohol concentration before going to jail.
