A 12-year-old Sequim boy was fatally struck by a truck Saturday evening outside Vancouver, British Columbia, while on vacation with his family.
In an e-mail newsletter,
the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce confirmed Isaac Smith, 12, had died. Isaac is the son of Josh and Teresa Smith, owners of
Sequim Electric, and grandson of Jeri and Ron Smith. He was home-schooled.
The Smith family conveyed through the chamber they did not wish to comment at this time.
According to a news release by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, around 5:30 p.m. the family was driving on the Agassiz Rosedale Bridge when a lid blew off one of the storage containers atop the family’s camper van. The family turned the van around and Isaac, identified as "the family’s 12-year-old son," exited the van to retrieve the lid, Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop said. While attempting to retrieve the lid, the boy was struck by an oncoming semi-truck, she said.
He was airlifted to a Vancouver area hospital where he later died, she said.
"This is a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with the family at this time," Dunlop said.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at Dungeness Community Church.
The chamber said cards can be sent to the Smith
