A Sequim woman was injured when her car and one driven by a Port Ludlow driver collided at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, on U.S. Highway 104, nine miles south of Port Ludlow.

Geraldine Fowler, 59, of Port Ludlow, and her passenger Susan Degutes, 41, of Novato, Calif., were westbound in a 1992 Chrysler New Yorker. Fowler was preparing to make a right turn to northbound Teal Lake Road.

Mary Degutes, 74, of Sequim, was following in a 2000 Lexus RX300 and attempted to pass Fowler’s car on the right shoulder.

The vehicles collided in the intersection.

Mary Degutes sprained her wrist and Susan Degutes broke her ankle. Both were transported to Jefferson Healthcare by aid car. Fowler was not injured.

The Lexus sustained $5,000 in damages and was towed away. The Chrysler was totaled.

Seatbelts were is use and drugs and alcohol were not factors, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

Mary Degutes was charged with unsafe passing.
