Sequim house fire quelled

No injuries were reported in a fire at a Sequim residence on the 200 block of North Dunlap Avenue on Sept. 28.

First responders from Clallam County Fire District 3 found smoke showing from the rear of the two-story structure.

The homeowners stated everyone was out of the residence and that the fire was downstairs in a back bedroom, fire district representatives said. Prior to crews arriving, the homeowners tried to use a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.

Smoke was down to the floor and fire was rolling across the ceiling in the hallway,” District 3 assistant chief Dan Orr said. Crews pushed the fire back to the room of origin and extinguished the fire.

Fire investigators on scene determined that a battery charger to a small appliance appeared to be involved and was in the vicinity of the origin, Orr said. The fire appears to be accidental.

No one was injured during the incident.

The estimate of damage to the structure is approximately $300,000, and $100,000 for the contents.

The homeowners have insurance and family was on scene to assist with short term housing, district officials said.
