One of the biggest events on the Olympic Peninsula — the Sequim Lavender Farm Faire, July 19-21 — relies on community volunteers and now is the time to step up, says volunteer coordinator Melissa Murray.

Volunteers primarily greet the public, provide information and sell tickets. Some also help decorate (and un-decorate), drive the shuttle tractor and introduce band members.

In exchange for four or more hours of service during the weekend, volunteers receive a free ticket, a lavender plant (compliments of Victor’s Lavender), a commemorative T-shirt and an invitation to the potluck appreciation party. The free ticket allows unlimited access to all of the heritage farms during this festive event. Families can serve together or individuals can make new friends. Volunteers are asked to attend a training session the week prior to the event or, if that is not possible, to read an e-mailed training manual.
