Sequim man gets life sentence for ’05 attack

A Sequim man was sentenced May 19 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a sexually-motivated assault of a woman at Railroad Bridge Park in 2005.

Steven Ong, 41, was sentenced in Clallam County Superior Court by Judge George L. Wood after a jury found him guilty of attacking the woman and her 21-month-old son.

The assault was Ong’s third strike under Washington’s "Three-Strikes" law, which covers felonies the state deems most serious.

Ong’s other two strikes were for second-degree assault in 1992 and second-degree kidnapping in 1995. The first strike was rape-related and the second involved a girl younger than 10 years old. Both occurred in Clallam County.
