The community is invited to enjoy a day of classic cars, raffles, food, music and more at the sixth-annual Sequim Prairie Nights.
The event is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in downtown Sequim, on West Washington Street between Sequim Avenue and Third Avenue. Parking starts at 7:30 a.m.
Highlighted by a car show-and-shine, Sequim Prairie Nights is held primarily to raise scholarship funds for graduating Sequim and Port Angeles high school students pursuing continuing education in the automotive and construction trades.
Students receiving $1,000 scholarships from the organizers include: Cole Alton, studying welding and automotive, Peninsula College; Casey Hudgen, studying automotive collision and repair, Universal Technical Institute; and, Tyler Marvin, studying carpentry and automotive, Peninsula College. Alton, Hudgen and Marvin are 2023 Port Angeles High School graduates.
Additionally, Sequim’s own Bonneville Salt Flats record holding Tri-Mac Speedsters will be on hand, fresh from this years attempt at setting a new world record for 100-cc motorcycles.
The scholarship selection process is overseen by Olympic View Community Foundation.
It’s a fun event … something that the whole community can enjoy,” foundation director Sheila Everett said. “There are little kids, 90-years-olds, women. It’s just a classic kind of small town Americana.
“We are so happy to be able to help them be able to do this event every year.”
The event will also feature a classic fire engine owned by a Port Townsend resident, Everett noted.
“The kids are just going to love that,” she said.
An additional goal of Sequim Prairie Nights, organizers say, is to bring individuals to the downtown core, encouraging them to visit local businesses and eateries.
