Sequim students of all ages shared in some good reads for Read Across America Day on March 1, in conjunction with other students across the nation.
As tradition, Sequim High School classes trekked across Sequim School District’s main campus to Helen Haller Elementary, and Sequim Middle School eighth-graders traveled by bus to Greywolf Elementary so students could read books and participate in fun activities together.
Read Across America Day started on March 2, 1998, in conjunction with the birthday of author Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss. Sequim celebrated a day early as the national celebration was recognized on Saturday, March 2. The event also coincided with Sequim Elementary PTA’s Read-a-thon fundraiser that ran Feb. 12-March 1 for the Six Books for Summer program and yearbooks.
Read Across America Day is part of a year-long initiative focused on reading led by the National Education Association. Find more resources at readacrossamerica.org.
