Jonathan Dylan Tyler Black, 18, of Sequim, was sentenced June 30 to $1,950 in fines and three months in jail for the charges of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana, possession of a controlled substance other than marijuana and possession of a pistol while being of an age between 18 and 21.

The same day Black was sentenced, he received a long list of new charges including burglary in the first degree, six counts of theft of a firearm, two counts of possession of stolen property in the first degree, burglary in the second degree, theft in the first degree and vehicle prowling in the second degree.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reports Black unlawfully entered a vehicle in Sequim in January and stole several items worth about $250 and allegedly stole a motorcycle from a garage in Sequim estimated to be worth $4,500. Black reportedly tried to sell the motorcycle but was unsuccessful and rolled it off a cliff so that it could not be found.

The gun charges originate from an alleged September 2007 burglary in Port Angeles. The Sheriff’s Office reports Black allegedly entered the workshop of the father of his ex-girlfriend and stole seven guns, which he reportedly sold and traded to others in the area. While witness statements allege Black bragged about the burglary, he reportedly told officers he did not steal the guns but could tell them where they were.

Black was booked into the Clallam County Correctional Facility upon his arrest on June 27.

The charges for which Black was sentenced stem from a traffic stop in the Sequim Safeway parking lot.

Sequim Police received information from juvenile services that Black had a valid bench warrant issued for his arrest for a probation violation connected to previous violations.

On Jan. 9, an officer saw the vehicle that Black was known to drive and called on a marked police vehicle to perform the warrant arrest. An Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team dispatcher notified the Sequim department that Black likely had two firearms in his vehicle.

Black was taken into custody without incident. A 16-year-old female passenger was detained temporarily until the vehicle search was completed. Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and reportedly found 11 clear sandwich bags containing suspected marijuana, which was later determined to be marijuana by chemical testing. The bags were all rolled in the same manner and appeared to contain about the same amount of the drug. Next to the marijuana was a digital scale.

Officers also allegedly found a glass smoking device containing burnt residue that smelled like burnt marijuana and a clear glass pipe with white residue in it, which was later determined to be methamphetamine.

After the drugs were removed, officers reportedly saw a black bandana in the glove box, which allegedly contained an unloaded .22 caliber Phoenix Arms semi-automatic pistol. Eight .22 caliber bullets allegedly were found in the ashtray of the vehicle.

In the trunk of the car, officers reportedly found a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun and multiple shotgun shells and .22 caliber rounds.

During an interview, Black said the vehicle was his and that he routinely drives it. He said the marijuana in the car was his and that he had weighed it out and packaged it, according to court documents.

Black allegedly said he didn’t own the pistol, that it was someone else’s and that he had placed it in the glove box himself. Black said he got the shotgun in trade from a friend. He said the methamphetamine pipe was not his.
