Sequim’s new Civic Center is open for business Monday

Sequim offices to close for move May 14 and May 15

The City of Sequim’s staff begins moving into the new 33,000-square-foot, $14.45 million Civic Center this week at 152 W. Cedar St.

To celebrate the building opening on Monday, May 18, the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at noon in front of the facility. The city will conduct normal hours afterward, opening from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.

The city council’s first meeting in the building tentatively is slated for June 8 and the city will hold a dedication ceremony on the community plaza at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13.

The planned rotating art exhibit “What Sequim Means to Me,” with 16 pieces selected by the city’s Arts Advisory Committee, tentatively will be on display for the First Friday Art Walk on June 5.

Sequim offices to close for move

The City of Sequim Administrative Offices, 226 N. Sequim Ave., will be closed Thursday-Friday, May 14-15. All other Sequim City offices; Police and Finance/Utility Billing,  609 W. Washington St.; and Public Works and Community Development, 615 N. Fifth Ave., will close at noon May 14 and remain closed until the new Civic Center opens at 8 a.m. Monday, May 18.

Beginning May 18, the new Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., will be open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and will house the police station and City Hall.

The closure is necessary to move the physical assets of the police station and City Hall as well as the technology infrastructure.

City staff e-mail, telephones and voicemail service will not be available during this time period. There will be no passport service May 14-15.

The official Civic Center dedication ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13. Tours of the building will be held from 3-4:30 p.m.
