The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office recently added four Corrections Department deputies: Ella Mildon, Wymond Meredith, Melissa Clark and Susan Bernsten.
Deputies start with a month-long Field Training program allowing them to start working in the jail immediately alongside seasoned Corrections deputies, then attend the Criminal Justice Training Commission Corrections Officers Academy within six months.
Mildon graduated from the Criminal Justice Training Commission Corrections Officers Academy on June 29; the remaining three deputies are scheduled to attend the academy in the next few months.
Mildon grew up in Western Washington and moved to Clallam County in 2016 after attending Central Washington University. She is new to the corrections field; she worked as a riding instructor/horse trainer until she became a member of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office in January.
A Pacific Lutheran University alumna, Bernsten moved to Clallam County from Puyallup in 2000. She has prior corrections officer experience at Clallam Bay Corrections Center and Olympic Corrections Center. Bernsten has three children: two of them are graduates of Sequim High School and one is entering Sequim High School this fall.
Clark moved to Washington state from Colorado to start work as a lateral deputy with the Sheriff’s Office on June 1.
Meredith moved to Washington state from Kansas in 2014. He sold heavy trucks for 20 years, has a bachelor of science degree in business administration, and he is also a United States Army veteran. He moved to Clallam County in late March to start work for the Sheriff’s Office in April.
