It’s almost time for one of Sequim’s biggest sales as the Ninth Annual Shipley Center Benefit Sale ramps up in the QFC Shopping Center, 990 E. Washington St., Suite 104.

The benefit begins with a members only sale from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 with memberships available, and a public sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9.

Michael Smith, executive director for the Shipley Center, formerly the Sequim Senior Activity Center, said 90 percent of funds go to  general operating funds for the center and 10 percent go to college scholarships.

Last school year, two students each received $1,500 after center volunteers raised $30,000 through the sale.

“When people come to the sale, they’ll be supporting the seniors and high school seniors,” Smith said.

Donations are accepted from 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 and Aug. 6,  10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, and 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4. The last day to donate is Aug. 6.

The center is not accepting older electronics, used mattresses, bed pillows, shoes and boots, Christmas decorations, encyclopedias, magazines and Readers Digest condensed books.

Volunteers usually start planning the sale in March, Smith said, and they accept furniture donations year round to sell online and benefit the center.
