City of Sequim police officer Kyle Resser was promoted to patrol sergeant effective Sept. 1, Sequim Police Department officials announced last week.

Resser was hired as a reserve officer by the Sequim Police Department in 2015. In 2016, he was hired as a full-time police officer and completed the 720-hour Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

In his time with the department, Resser has worked as a patrol officer; field training officer, training newly hired officers after they completed the Washington State Police Academy, and for the past three years, as the School Resource Officer.

As an officer, Resser received the Target Zero Traffic Safety and Life Saving awards and was selected as Officer of the Year in 2021 by the Sequim Police Department.

“Kyle’s promotion to Sergeant is directly related to his shown ability to foster positive relationships with the school and broader community,” Sequim Police Chief Mike Hill said in a press release. “His proactive approach to policing combined with thorough casework has prepared Kyle well for his new role as Sergeant.”

As Resser moves into the role of patrol sergeant, officer Daniel Martinez was selected as the new school resource officer.
