Action sports are getting more and more popular on the peninsula.
In effort to provide a wider selection of sports apparel, Tracy Seay and Jeff “Hendo” Henderson opened Northwest Threadz Feb. 22, followed by a grand opening celebration March 1. The store sells action sportswear for snowboard, skate and surf enthusiasts, catering to teenagers and young adults.
“There isn’t a big selection for the younger crowd in
“Sequim. I know that we go to Silverdale for the things we need,” Seay said. “But action sports in the Northwest are huge. Snowboarding has always been big and now the surf and skate scenes are catching up.”
As a new business, Seay said her main goal is to let people know there’s a new store in town. “I want to get busier and get products in that people want but can’t find elsewhere.”
Seay grew up in Sequim and has been snowboarding for six years. Customers may recognize her from Applebee’s, where she tends bar. She plans to continue doing so until the business “takes off.”
“I’ve been talking about opening a store for a while,” Seay said. “Finally, I just went for it.”
Northwest Threadz is located at 235 E. Washington St., where Marunde Muscle used to be before the owner relocated to a home-based gym, according to Seay.
The shelves at Northwest Threadz are changing daily.
“We are getting more and more brands in as we go along,” Seay said. “So come on in,” she encouraged.
