Washington state’s 2016 Capital Budget includes an appropriation to provide two modular classroom buildings to the Sequim School District, school officials reported this week.

Of the 295 school districts in Wash-ington, only five received this appropriation: the Sequim, Seattle, Mount Vernon, Wapato and Toppenish districts.

The legislative action provides for the construction of two classroom buildings at each school district with two classrooms in each, for a total of four additional classrooms.

Sequim School District’s administrators are considering the most appropriate school site to locate the buildings.

“We thank the state Legislature and the capital finance committee leadership for responding to our school’s classroom building needs,” Sequim schools superintendent Gary Neal said. “Our school district will take advantage of this rare opportunity, which aligns with our own district’s long range facilities plan and will be a great benefit to our elementary school students.”

Washington State’s Department of Enterprise Services is coordinating the design, construction and site modifications necessary to accommodate the modular classrooms. Sequim’s school district is responsible for providing furnishings and equipment.

The state’s goal is to complete construction by the end of December.
