A recent major rehabilitation, paving and restriping project is complete at Sequim Valley Airport, airport manager/co-owner Andy Sallee announced last week.

Engineering and paving funding for the new pavement — a 3-inch asphalt overlay that includes the entire runway, turnarounds at each end and approaches to the taxiways — was provided via two separate grants through the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), with 5 percent matching funds from the airport, Sallee said.

”The Airport is now open with an upgraded and improved runway that will serve the local and aviation community for many years to come,” Sallee said in a press release.

Over a two-week period (Sept. 21-Oct. 5), the airport was closed to all except emergency traffic, he said.

”With near perfect weather conditions, a lot things quickly came together and we were able to complete this project in two weeks while we have available pavers and dry soil conditions,” Sallee noted.

WSDOT, Century West Engineering, Lakeside Industries and others provided work in this upgrade, he said.
