Storm damage closes Robin Hill park

Damage from recent storms have closed Robin Hill Farm County Park in Agnew, county officials said last week.

Don Crawford, director of Clallam County Parks, Fair & Facilities, is asking residents and area visitors to stay out of the park “until the storm-related hazards have been mitigated”; county officials estimate the park’s reopening will be in late February.

The park experienced a “substantial tree blowdown,” leaving the park trail system unsafe and largely impassible, leading park officials to close the park except for the Olympic Discovery Trail easement that bisects the park’s southern end, they said in a press release last week.

Trail users should be aware of debris and stay on the established asphalt trail surface.

During the closure, trucks and equipment will coming and going from the park to aid in selective hazard tree removals, county officials noted.

“Precarious conditions are scattered throughout the park, and only a portion of the trees are marketable,” they said. The balance will either be utilized for county park cordwood or left on the ground.

After the RHF Trail reopens, trail restoration will continue throughout the summer of 2023, county officials said —concluding with a volunteer tree planting in late October.
