Sasquatch, Donald Duck and a plethora of birds made appearances at the opening of the 15th annual Student Art Show March 6.
The characters were but a sampling of the 100 pieces at the Museum and Arts Center’s first opening after a two-month remodel. Sixty-four students in grades six-12 participated from Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks
"I think this is a perfect combination for students and for curiosity," said Karin Anderson, art show coordinator.
"This gives kids a chance to show their work professionally. Kids around here don’t get to go to galleries or museums much."
Lynne Armstrong, a watercolorist, and Maria Loe, a ceramic artist, judged the competition. After the competition, Armstrong wrote personal notes responding to each student’s work.
Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society sponsored a portion of the show – a competition in bird art.
Once the exhibit finishes at the museum, the Audubon Society plans to display the bird art for a month at the Dungeness River Audubon Society at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road. The society will feature the art at the Olympic Peninsula BirdFest from April 3-5.
"We’re really pleased with the art, so we’ll try to make this an annual part of the show," said Jim Richard, Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society president.
The art show runs from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday at the Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
