The Sequim-centered Clallam Solar Tour celebrates local solar power with a free tour of solar-powered and energy-efficient buildings. Three Sequim homes and one business are on the self-guided solar tour, which runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.

Andy Cochrane of tour sponsor Power Trip Energy presents “Spin Your Meter Backwards” at 10 a.m. at tour site McComb Gardens, 751 McComb Road, where tour maps also are available. The talk covers solar power products, pricing, system performance, financial incentives, loan programs and the “Solarize Sequim” rebates ongoing through Aug. 31.

Each of the solar tour sites features a grid-tied photovoltaic system as well as a range of energy-efficient building designs and appliances. The sites are within a few miles of each other and owners will be on hand to answer questions.

Paul Gniffke’s new energy-efficient home sports 24 made-in-Washington Silicon Energy panels that qualify for special financial incentives. Michael Repko and Gail Kramer didn’t have a single roof big enough for the 29 solar panels they wanted to install, so a solar module array is spread between two roofs on their house.

The home of Ric and Donna Frankel has a large south-facing roof that accommodates 28 solar panels.

Jane Stewart and Neil Burkhardt of McComb Gardens utilized a low-interest loan through First Federal and Clallam PUD (also available to homeowners) to help finance the installation of 18 solar panels at their business. Energy savings and green power earnings offset about half of the annual electricity bill for their large plant nursery.
