If the moon appeared to be bigger and brighter last week, that wasn’t your eyes playing tricks. Sequim-Dungeness Valley residents got an eyeful of a “supermoon” on July 12.

The scientific term for the phenomenon is “perigee moon,” in which a full moon occurs at the closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. That means great photo ops and “super” low tides. Get your cameras ready for two more upcoming “supermoon” evenings: Aug. 10 and Sept. 19.
