A sport utility vehicle struck a power pole off West Sequim Bay Road late Monday night (March 11), causing electricity to go out for nearly 2,000 households and businesses in and around the City of Sequim.
Sequim Police Department reports an unidentified man in his 60s was driving west on West Sequim Bay Road when he left the roadway and struck the pole at about 11:22 p.m.
Sgt. Andrew Wagner said alcohol and drugs were not a factor for the collision.
Clallam County Fire District 3 staff report the man was extricated through the vehicle’s windshield.
He was evaluated on scene and had no medical complaints from the wreck, but was transported to Olympic Medical Center for further evaluation, fire district staff report.
Clallam PUD officials reports that 1,889 customers lost power due to the collision and multiple lines going down.
Crews had to replace the pole that was hit, staff said on scene. Power was largely out north of Washington Street, according to the outage map.
Electricity was completely restored to the area by 9 a.m., PUD representatives said.
