Three injured in Discovery Bay wreck

Sequim man may face vehicular assault charges following Discovery Bay wreck

Three area residents were injured — including one airlifted to Harborview Medical Center — following a head-on car collision near Discovery Bay on Monday morning, July 13.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, Hector D. Baylon, 19, of Sequim, was driving northbound on US Highway 101 at 6:19 a.m. about 13 miles south of Port Townsend when his Chevrolet Impala crossed the center line and struck a Ford Focus driven by Laurel S. Thompson, 45, of Port Ludlow.

The vehicles spun across the roadway. A third vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven by Darrin M. Liggins, 44, of Sequim, struck Thompson’s car.

Thompson was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. Hospital officials report Thompson was moved out of intensive care and into satisfactory condition on Tuesday, July 14.

Baylon and Ligging were both injured and transported to Jefferson General Hospital.

Trooper Russ Winger with the State Patrol said Baylon was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and may face a felony charge of vehicular assault.

The crash remains under investigation by State Patrol.
