On March 10, Applebee’s in Sequim hosted a Tip-A-Cop fundraising event in support of Special Olympics of Washington. Law enforcement folks from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police, Sequim Police and the Washington State Patrol were all on hand visiting with patrons at the restaurant giving them an opportunity to “tip the cop.”

Hundreds of folks turned out, many them with the intent of supporting the Special Olympic Athletes. Some of the athletes were on hand to greet customers as well.

While there still are some envelopes with donations trickling in, the initial count shows the event raised more than $2,300 in just over three hours. The money all comes back to the local Special Olympic Teams in Clallam and Jefferson counties.

In May officers volunteer their time and run the Special Olympics torch through Clallam and Jefferson counties to Kitsap County for its ultimate destination at Joint Base Lewis McChord, where the Summer Special Olympics will be held.
