The 2014 Class Act at Woodcock Garden lecture and demonstration series gets under way on Saturday, May 10, when veteran Master Gardener Judy English shares her experience in growing and harvesting mature, ripe and tasty tomatoes.

Her presentation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the Clallam County Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

English discusses growing tomatoes from starter plants. She provides tips on selecting varieties and healthy plants. She describes location, soil and sun requirements, explains grafting, demonstrates trench and conventional planting methods and explains watering, feeding and pruning techniques. English also will describe fungal issues that affect tomatoes.

A WSU Clallam County Master Gardener since 2005, English has 11 years of experience of growing tomatoes on the Olympic Peninsula.

English gives a similar presentation from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, in the commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The Class Act at Woodcock Garden presentations are held on select Saturdays from May through September at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden.
