As the temperatures slowly rise, entertainment on the peninsula moves from indoor venues to more natural settings.

For the second year, the city of Sequim is presenting “Music and a Movie in the Park,” a way for children to beat the summer-break boredom and adults to take a midweek breather.

Using donated funds, the city provides entertainment on Tuesday evenings staring in late June and through early September. Beginning at 6 p.m. each Tuesday, peninsula-area bands specializing in everything from country to jazz music kick off the evening with a set of their music and once a month, the city will show a family-friendly movie, such as “Over the Hedge” or “Surf’s Up.”

“It’s something fun to do for kids and parents, a way to get out,” said Ann Holgerson, who works in the city office.

A little farther from home, the Quilcene-area Olympic Music Festival kicks off in late June, presenting classical music in a 19th-century barn sitting on a 55-acre former dairy farm. The festival, which is about 25 miles from Sequim, kicks off Saturday, June 28. Festival organizers encourage visitors to spend the day on the grounds, enjoying the pastures, picnic tables and pet donkeys.
