Jerry also delivers magazines and books, both hardcover and paperback, to the VA Hospital Library at American Lake. They accept current magazines ­within one year of publication for women’s magazines and weekly news and sports magazines or within five years for magazines such as Smithsonian, Natural History and National Geographic.

Kudos for designation

Many thanks to Jerry for getting the state Legislature to approve a bill designating a Medal of Honor Highway for the four Medal of Honor recipients from Clallam and Jefferson counties. The signs are up near the county line on U.S. Highway 101.

Trebert chapter sets annual picnic

The Michael Trebert Chapter of the NSDAR is going to have a busy month. Its annual picnic will be Saturday, July 11. Contact Janis at j​flanagan@comcast.net​ for more information.

The ladies will appear in costume at the George Washington Inn during the NW Colonial Festival reenactments of the battles of Lexington and Concord on July 15-16 and during the Lavender Festival July 17-19. The event area will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with the battles taking place at noon and 2:30 p.m. daily.

Please come out and see us and experience history. Gen. George Washington will be there!

Turkey shoot on tap

Jack Grennan Post 62 of the American Legion will be hosting the third Veterans Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Aug. 22, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. The Turkey Shoot will be held at the Peninsula Long Rifles Camp Ground on Slab Camp Road. Vets’ Appreciation Day

Many of the local service organizations will be participating in The Home Depot Veterans Appreciation Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The American Legion is organizing the event. There will be free food, raffle prizes and information on all the participating service organizations.

Money from the raffles will go to Sarge’s Place, The Outpost and Captain Joseph House. Come out and mingle with fellow veterans and find out what these organizations are doing in our community.

Stand Down for Veterans

Voices For Veterans will be holding a Stand Down for homeless veterans from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  Monday, July 27, at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St. Helpers always are needed to set up the day before, help veterans and take down the day of.
