Donations needed

Some of you may have seen on television news the huge warehouse fire in New Jersey on Feb. 11. As a result of the destruction of military surplus items in the warehouse the Department of Defense cannot give Voices For Veterans any items for the three Stand Downs in 2016. The biggest impact is boots, heavy jackets and cloth barracks bags (duffle bags).

Donations of gently used heavy outdoor jackets will help. Monetary donations to buy a variety of sizes of new boots would be much appreciated. If you have your old military duffle bag in the back of the closet, please get it out and donate it.

Call me 683-6419 or send an email to cdrlgilchrist@gmail.com if you have questions or donations.

The first Stand Down is in Forks on May 5, so we need to get to work on this!

Free martial arts classes on tap

Kathrin Sumpter of Sequim Martial Arts/Sequim Doce Pares is offering a free program for veterans and first responders in the art of Eskrima.

Eskrima is a Filipino stick and blade martial art.

Kathrin holds a first degree black belt in this art. She has experience in training with veterans and people who suffer from PTSD, stress and anxiety and has seen first hand how this curriculum dissipates some of the debilitating symptoms that accompany these conditions. The program fosters energy and well-being.

Classes are held from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and from 10-11:15 a.m. Wednesdays. She can be reached at matrix@olypen.com or 683-4799.
