Lend flags for veterans ceremony
The Clallam County Veterans Association is sponsoring the 2016 Veterans Day ceremony at Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
All veteran organizational flags to be displayed at the event need to be delivered to the Coast Guard Base gate (Ediz Hook). The Coast Guard will accept organizational flags at the gate of the base from 8 a.m.-noon Thursday, Nov. 10.
All flags will be collected at the gate and transported by USCG staff to the ceremony hangar on the base.
All flags will need to be picked up immediately following the ceremony. If you are not able to coordinate with this time, contact Tammy Sullenger for alternate instructions at 477-5120.
Middle school assembly to honor veterans
Community members are invited to attend an assembly honoring veterans of the Armed Forces at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road.
Plan to arrive a few minutes early and stop in at the main office to sign in before proceeding to the gym, where the assembly will be held. For more about this event, email Richard Miko at rmiko@sequim.k12.wa.us.
Sequim High School had a Veterans Day salute on Nov. 7.
Free entrance to veterans at national forests
In honor of veterans, all US Forest Service day-use sites across the nation are fee-free on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. This includes trailheads, picnic areas and other day-use sites where a fee is normally charged. Olympic National Forest encourages you to take advantage of this and other fee-free days throughout the year, to discover and enjoy your public lands.
The Forest Service also honors active duty military members year-round with the free Interagency Annual Military Pass honored at all Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service sites charging entrance or standard amenity fees.
