Learn how to become a volunteer as a docent for NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary at Olympic Coast Discovery Center with training in Port Angeles.
A once-weekly training for new volunteer docents begins Tuesday, April 19, for six consecutive weeks. Training topics include sanctuary ecosystems and wildlife, marine research and deep sea corals, current marine issues, maritime heritage, communicating with the public and more. Two of the six training sessions are field trips to Salt Creek Reserve and Neah Bay.
Olympic Coast Discovery Center is an interpretive visitor center to inform local and international guests of sanctuary natural and cultural resources and programs.
Docents typically volunteer two to four hours per week.
The training takes place at The Landing Mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., on Port Angeles’s waterfront and is free of charge, but registration is required.
