Last year’s "winner" and current spokesman Dr. Brian Marts will cheer on the new winner and give advice in the challenge of actually kissing the pig.

Participating veterinarians will have piggy banks in their offices to accept donations in their names. Several businesses in Port Angeles and Sequim also will have display boards to allow people to vote for your favorite veterinarian.

The "winner" — the vet with the most money donated in his or her name – gets to kiss the pig in the fair’s swine/sheep arena at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23.

Money that is raised will fund year-end awards, scholarships to graduating seniors ($1,000 last year) and help with costs of out-of-area 4-H teen events. More than 800 county youths participate in 4-H through traditional clubs and afterschool programs.

Previous winners: first year, Dr. Bob Mowbray; second year, Dr. Sandra Smith; third year, Dr. Cheryl Adaska; fourth year, Dr. Dennis Wilcox; fifth year, Dr. Sandra Smith; sixth year, Dr. Marna Hall; seventh year, Dr. Sandra Smith; eighth year, Dr. Brian Marts.
