Yvonne Wakefield, former visual arts specialist at Helen Haller and Greywolf Elementary schools, will be giving readings from her book "Suitcase Filled with Nails" from 4:30-6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St.
Wakefield will share her reflections on lessons learned from teaching art in Kuwait. In "Suitcase Filled with Nails," she tells her story of six years of teaching art to Muslim women in the Middle East.
Copies of her book will be on hand for purchase and she will be available for personalized autographs.
Author Nina Amir says of Wakefield’s book, "An eye-opening look under the veil of young Muslim women that allows readers to see how similar they are to young women everywhere … a realistic, and sometimes frightening, view of what one can expect if you live and work in the Middle East."
