The Sequim High Wolves fastpitch softball team made history this week by taking home the first uncontested, unshared team state championship in the school’s long history.
The Wolves arrived at the state tournament in Selah 24-0 and and West Central District champs.
When they returned home they were still undefeated after putting together over the May 27-28 weekend a final four wins to complete a picture-perfect 28-0 season.
The team members celebrated in Selah, posing with the two trophies handed to the state champs. The large trophy with the silver glove travels, spending a year at the home of the champs before moving on. The second trophy, a glass and wood construction, will be enshrined at Sequim High forever.
The team and their coaches were cheered by the entire student body during an assembly in the gym Thursday, June 2. They were joined in the celebration by Frank Catelli (in these photos, the tall blond with the headband) who this week picked up his own state championship by beating all comers in the shot put competition at the state track and field meet.
