Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict reminds bounty residents that use of fireworks is limited to legal consumer fireworks at certain times.

Consumer fireworks do not include things like firecrackers, bottle rockets and missiles. These illegal fireworks, Benedict says, cause traumatic injuries and are prone to starting fires.

Items like M-80s and larger, cherry bombs and tennis ball bombs, Benedict notes, are not fireworks. These “fireworks” are actually explosives and are powerful enough to cause life-altering injuries or even death.

There are more than 1,000 emergencies every year in Washington attributed to fireworks, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

• This year, hours for fireworks in the county areas are:

June 28, noon-11 p.m.

June 29-July 4, 9 a.m.-11 p.m

July 5, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Remember to keep all pets safely inside during these times and when outside, put their leashes on them.

• Within the city limits, people can shoot fireworks at these times:

July 2-3 from 9 a.m.-11 p.m.; July 4 from 9 am.-midnight; July 5 from 9 a.m.-11 p.m.
