Woman attempts to elude and crashes

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, on Nov. 28, Kylee A. Flores, 20, of Sequim, was arrested after a pursuit in a stolen pickup truck that ended in a crash landing in a yard at a local residence off Sequim-Dungeness Way north of Sequim. Flores suffered only minor injuries. The truck, a 2004 Ford F150, was a total loss. Damages to the landscaping, stop sign and other road signs are estimated to be in the thousands. The amount is yet to be determined. No one else was involved or injured.

At 7:11 p.m., Paul Solie, 66, of Sequim, was attending a yoga session at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, when he heard his pickup start up and saw it drive off south toward Sequim.

Solie called 9-1-1 and Deputies Don Kitchen and Chris Moon, who happened to be in the area, responded. Moon was northbound on Sequim-Dungeness Way when he soon encountered Solie’s truck southbound near Towne Road.

Moon attempted to stop the truck and it sped away reaching speeds of up to 90 mph. The speed limit for that area was 40 mph.

Moon had been pursuing the truck for about three miles when the driver, Flores, attempted to pass a car in front of it and hooked the road edge of the oncoming lane of the two-lane road.

Flores began to swerve, overcorrected back to the southbound lane and then went into a skid, crossing back over the center and into the ditch where the pickup ended at the intersection of Jesslyn Lane and Sequim-Dungeness Way.

Flores became slightly airborne crossing Jesslyn Lane, landing in a garden in a yard, taking out several feet of chain link fencing and a couple of small fruit trees.

The truck eventually came to rest upside down on a small hedge next to the driveway in the garden.

Flores, the sole occupant, was arrested at gun point without incident by Moon with assistance from Kitchen and the Sequim Police Department. Fire District 3 medics were summoned to the scene.

Flores was treated for a minor cut to the hand and did not appear to be impaired. She was transported to the Clallam County jail.

In addition, Flores had two outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was found to have drug paraphernalia on her person with suspected heroin residue, according to the report.

The homeowners were out of town and according to the caretaker, they are due back home Tuesday. The homeowners have been notified.

Law enforcement reminds the public to lock their vehicles and don’t leave ignition keys behind. Charges against Flores include theft of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude, reckless driving and driving while license was suspended. The investigation continues.
