Marsha E. Melnick, PT, PhD, with Sequim Physical Therapy Center, presents a free WOW! Working on Wellness Forum entitled “Healthy Living with Parkinson’s: Tips for the Entire Family” at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim.
Melnick will talk about the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including the non-motor symptoms which are often most troubling to the family. She discusses how the patient and the caregiver or spouse can handle these symptoms so that both stay healthy, through exercise, social outings and pursuing separate activities some of the time.
Melnick is Professor Emerita and Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco/San Francisco State Graduate Program in Physical Therapy. Throughout her career she has specialized in treatment of neuromuscular dysfunction and especially in treatment of Parkinson’s disease. She received two National Institute of Health grants for the development of computerized games for those with Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy.
Melnick currently works as an independent physical therapy contractor at Sequim Physical Therapy Center.
WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic—Sequin’s free clinic.
The clinic provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. Its work is supported by more than 70 volunteers, including physicians, other professional health care providers and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond.
