Donald “Don” Spriggs passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2014 at the age of 81 from a stroke on December 31, 2013.
Don was born at home to Lee & Charlotte Spriggs in McCune, Kansas. His family moved to Seattle in 1946 where Don went to Highline High School from 1947 to 1949 and at the age of seventeen joined the Marine Corp. He helped in the capture of Seoul, Korea, in 1950. In 1951 participated in an amphibious raid against North Korea
forces at Sorye-Dong and against enemy forces in South and Central Korea. Don sustained severe head injuries while in the Marine Corp. which led to his diagnosis in 2005 of dementia, seizures and strokes.
After his discharge in 1957 he met & married his life partner, Bonnie. They lived in the Seattle and South King County area from 1957 to 1994 and moved to Sequim after Don retired from Associated Grocers.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and their three children, John, Debbie, and Ron (Tami); nine grandchildren, Amber, Josh, Crystal, Zach, Kyle, Kris, Chandra, Charlene and Chasia; seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Pypier, Meghan, Zoe, Nikki, Landon and little Patrick; brother, Marvin Spriggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
A funeral service will be held for Don on Saturday, January 18,
1:00 p.m. at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel in Sequim. A reception
to follow at the American Legion Hall 170 E. Prairie St., Sequim.
A private burial will take place at Sequim View Cemetery.
