Henry J. “Harry” Gaab Jr., former police chief of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, passed away at the age of 84 in Sequim on May 2, 2014.
He was born in Queens, New York, on August 1, 1929, to the late Henry J. and Mary Ellen “Mollie” (Quinlan) Gaab.
He attended Lansdowne-Aldan High School until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947. He served through 1952.
In 1963 he joined the Lansdowne Police Department and served as the Chief of Police from 1969 through 1983. From 1983 through 1988 he served as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
He graduated from Villanova University in 1979.
Harry is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marion (Ehgrott) Gaab.
Together they were blessed with five children, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gaab lived most of his life in Lansdowne before moving to Harrisburg, Delaware and finally to Sequim.
Harry spent the last 12 years of his life in Sequim with his loving and devoted companion, Maria C. Piazza.
He is survived by his daughters, Mari Mulchenock, Patricia Gaab, Lorraine Sostre, Judith Gaab; and son, Harry Gaab III.
His sincere kindness and immense strength of character will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 10, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Philomena Church.
He will be interred at Sts. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery.
