John Robert Boyce
November 2, 1926 – July 29, 2014
John Robert Boyce, of Sequim, beloved husband, of Mildred Dineson Boyce, died peacefully on July 29, 2014, in the presence of his wife and daughters, Ruth Elin Drossel of Simi Valley, California and Lila B. Wheatley of Etna, Wyoming.
Born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, on November 2, 1926, he grew up in the community of Arnolds Mills. He was an active member of the Grange, the Methodist Church, and a founding member of Boy Scout Troop #1, where he earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He was raised in a family of musicians and entertainers.
In 1944, he entered the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II, stationed out of San Diego, California. Following the war, he returned to Connecticut and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business from University of Bridgeport.
He and Mildred were married on November 25, 1950, during a hurricane!
John, known as “Bob,” and Mildred made their home in Fairfield, Connecticut, where they raised their two daughters. They were founding members of Fairfield-Grace United Methodist Church. Bob was a past president of the Bridgeport Citizen Service Club, and was also a Mason who served as Patron of the Rhea Chapter of the Eastern Star in Bridgeport. Upon his retirement from the Apex Tool Company in Bridgeport, Bob and Mildred moved to Sequim.
Besides his wife and daughters, Bob is survived by a sister, Mary Boyce Fish, of Delray Beach, Florida; two grandsons,
Erich Hans Drossel, of Sacramento, California, Patrick Louis Drossel of Eugene, Oregon, and various nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and friends around the country.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Bob’s name to the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 East Eighth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
