Julie A. Ewing
Julie left us to fly with her eagles on February 23, 2014, after living an amazing life without regrets.
Born in Seattle and raised in the Mt. Baker neighborhood, she graduated from Franklin High School, lived in North Bend for 3?0 years before spending the last 16 years in Happy Valley, Sequim. She never stopped calling Happy Valley “Paradise.”
?Julie worked as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines for 18 years, as an office manager for Lakeside Recovery Centers for 8 years, and 12 years as a legal processor for Clallam County Juvenile Services before retiring in 2010. She then got to do what she always wanted to do—volunteering at the Northwest Raptor Center and working with injured animals. Thank you, Jaye Moore.
Julie was victorious over the disease of alcoholism and other drug addiction with 28 drug-free years. She credited the 12 Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous for teaching her to live a life without regrets.
Despite living a healthy lifestyle she faced a variety of cancers for 30 years, “dodging the bullet” until the last vicious cancer took her life.
She had an amazing attitude of gratitude despite her cancers and was thankful for the life she had been blessed with. She finished her journey surrounded by family in friends in a home filled with love.
Julie left behind her husband, Preston Kayes (he kept his last name); brother, Craig Ewing; niece, Mischelle (Randy) Simon and great-nephew, Joaquin; favorite fake brother, Greg (Marla) Huff; and an amazing group of friends—from bikers to judges. Her last days were made peaceful through the loving care of her best friends, Michael and Florence Bucierka.
A celebration of the life of a remarkable woman who impacted so many people will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Rd., Sequim.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Northwest Raptor Center, http://nwraptorcenter.com/donate/.
