Marie Capogna passed away at her family’s home on October 30 with her family by her side, just seven days prior to her 90th birthday.
Marie was born in Woburn, Massachusetts on November 6,
1924 the oldest of five children.
She attended and graduated from St. Charles Parochial School in Woburn, MA and later graduated with an Associate’s degree from Fisher College in Massachusetts.
She married Phil L. Capogna, deceased, on October 16, 1948. While living in Woburn, they had five children. In 1971 the family purchased East Newport Grocery, in Maine and ran the small grocery and gas station, for several years. Af- ter selling the store, they lived in Pittsfield, Maine, until several years past her husband’s death. then Marie and her eldest son, Philip, moved to Sequim, Washington, in 2005.
Marie had a strong Catholic Faith
which was ever present in her daily life. She attended St.Joseph’s Church in Sequim and for many years enjoyed walking to Church to attend daily Mass. Marie loved to walk and was often seen throughout Sequim, near her home and Carrie Blake Park, where she enjoyed chatting with others along the way. All through her life Marie enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, making home-made raviolis, playing the piano and card games and visiting with friends. She was also very involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, Jack Grennan Post No. 62, in Sequim, WA. Marie touched the lives of so may people and
will be deeply missed.
Marie is preceded in death by her
husband, Phil L Capogna and sister Anita Brown and grandson Chris Capogna. She is survived by her children, Philip G. Capogna, Steve Capogna, Terese Brown, Dona Helmich and Laurie Brilhante, as well asher sisers, Jean Thompson and Diane Anderson and brother Charles Brown, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Sequim, WA on November 13, at 1 p.m., with a reception following at the American legion Post 62 in Sequim. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to either of the following:
