Walter Robert Ward

May 4, 1951 May 9, 2022

Walter Robert Ward passed away peacefully at his home in Sequim, WA after a long and courageous battle with Melanoma. Walt was born May 4, 1951 in Butte, Montana to Edward and Rita Ward. At a young age the family moved to St. Maries, ID where Walt graduated High School 1969. He spent his childhood camping and fly fishing on the St. Joe River, he frequently returned to the area, and loved sharing his favorite place with his family.

Walt and his bride moved to Port Angeles in 1980 when he was hired to manage Tradewell Grocery Store. After the store closed he worked in the beer and wine industry. He went on to spend the last decade of his career working as Grocery Manager at Sunny Farms.

Walt’s strongest passions were family, barbecuing on his Big Green Egg, riding his Ebike on the Discovery and Hiawatha trails, fishing, repacking the car for family road trips, blue tarps, bungee cords, duct tape, and detailing his cars.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents (Edward and Rita Ward), and will be deeply missed by his surviving family members; his wife Teri Ward (of 48 years), son Kyle Ward (Kelli), grandchild Wyatt, brother Edward (Leota), sisters Kathy (Terry) and Colleen, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Irishman will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, his quick sense of humor and staying true to who he was.

A very special thank you from our family goes to Dr. Kurt Norman, Dr. Benjamin Curran and Dr. Larry Balentine, along with Assured Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. at the John Wayne Marina/Hendricks Public Meeting Room in Sequim.

Donations may be made to the local Olympic Discovery Trail or the Boys and Girls Club of the Olympic Peninsula.
